APRIL NEWS ...

As the Homiletic Directory (no. 51) reminds us, this month we enter into “the privileged liturgical season during which the homilist can and must put forward the Church’s faith on this, her central proclamation: that Jesus Christ died for our sins ‘in accordance with the Scriptures’ (1 Cor 15:3) and that he rose on the third day ‘in accordance with the Scriptures’ (1 Cor 15:4).”

We invite you to advance that proclamation “in accordance with the Scriptures” by reviewing our Hearing the Word commentary series to learn more about the Gospel text and its relevance in people’s lives today.  Receive the easy-to-read commentary for free each week via email just by sending us your address.

And now you can also see what’s in accordance with CPI by following our new Instagram @CatholicPreachingInstitute

And the survey says …

In February, CPI opened separate surveys to pastors and parishioners to understand the homiletic experience of both clergy and the Catholic faithful of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.  THANK YOU to all who participated in the surveys!

The responses have been collected, collated and interpreted – click here to read more on the Research Page.

Now we’re on to creating vibrant programs with what we’ve learned.   We encourage you to visit this site often for updated information about these programs – and how you can contribute your time and talents!

From the Bookshelf ...

Easter Fire provides the biblical citations and summary phrases for the reading and the gospel plus the refrain from the psalm each day. After each citation, the authors offer a series of meaningful insights based on Scripture scholarship, their own prayerful reflection on the texts, and years of preaching and pastoral experience. These brief “bullet point” entries provide nuggets of knowledge and inspiration that will stimulate personal prayer and spark homily possibilities for the preacher every day. Easter Fire will ignite sparks that can be enflamed by God’s Spirit, to not only enrich the spiritual journey but to add light and warmth for the preparation of weekday homilies during the Easter season.

Holy Angels

November 10

Throughout this our inaugural year, we have celebrated each month the feast days of remarkable preachers who helped shape a fledgling Church, and who still influence how we celebrate our Catholic faith today.  You will find curated reads about each in our Bookshelf Archive.
As 2024 ebbs to its end, this Advent we remember the CHOIRS OF ANGELS, those celestial beings created by God for his kingdom.  Especially during this season, we remember those heavenly hosts – named and unnamed – whom God selected to break into human history to announce the coming of the Saviour!
The Angels of Christmas:  Hearing God’s Voice in Advent explores the four angelic visits to Zechariah, Mary, Joseph and the shepherds.  May we never forget these first “preachers” of the Good News.
A blessed and transformational Advent and Christmas to you and yours!
